First Summer Breeze Written by Erik Kjelland, 2015 VERSE 1 Hold tight, stay with me tonight I know, its a hardship to divide All the glitter in this world From the wreckage on the shoreline These days, not much to celebrate Build walls, and fortify the gates There's corruption on the streets And distrust between the sheets But we've been through it all Yeah we've seen it all PRECHORUS Every chain, can be broken Every door that is shut, can be opened CHORUS Here comes the relief, oh oh oh oh Its riding on the back of a breeze Oh, oh, oh oh oh oh Its covering you, its preaching to me Its the first summer breeze VERSE 2 At times, we all lose control A wrong step, can leave you in a hole Filled with anger and disgrace Failure painted on your face Dreaming, driving through the snow I see, no lines upon the road There's a pileup on the interstate Hope I’m alive when will I wake Better slow it down I better slow, it, down PRECHORUS 2 Every word, every warning Every breath you create in the morning CHORUS VERSE 3 (Instrumental) PRECHORUS 3 Every life, has a purpose Even sinners like me, who don’t feel, that they deserve it CHORUS
2.
I’m staring out a window 10000 feet above the cold A fitted sheet of nimbus clouds below Though I can’t see the highways Or the churches where the children pray I feel that they are safe inside today When the world seems far away so distant Out of reach from your tired and calloused hands I assure you there’s a glow where the river meets the shore There’s a good chance you will find just what you seek Over the horizon Are the highest mountains under me Or mighty rivers bursting seams An infant who is learning how to dream I know its hard to see right now The flowers planted in the fall Will burst to life as soil begins to thaw CHORUS Please, hold tight the ones you love Every kiss and every hug You can never have enough Count them one by by one
3.
Lay down promises like fresh cleaned linens Piled up high, ‘til the cold wind feels betrayed We hide like children, under beds full of sorrow And wait for tomorrow to chase those blues away There’s a reason for the change of seasons Falling leaves, like mile markers in the sky How far we’ve come is, such a relative equation I’m certain there’s a new day, on the other side I never was the perfect statue I walk on until there’s nothing left to prove I’ve seen the sun go down like one last serenade, Though my boots have all worn through, I will walk on any way When my days are few and my debts have all been paid, Still my feet will keep on movin’ I will walk on any way, walk on Been prone to wander down fresh gravel roads Follow footsteps to the sweet sweet by and by A proud, determined man, framed in a mirror I’m certain I can trust him, cause he looks me in the eye
4.
Rip off the bandage let the healing begin Let's call it what it is, the end of the end Pull the drapes open wide, let the fresh daylight in Let's call it what it is, the end of the end Two broken hearts take a long time to mend, you’ll see And the good times live on in our thoughts and our memories We’ve seen what we’ve seen and we’ve been where we’ve been So let's call it what it is, the end of the end We climbed a mountain with the best of intent Now the sun sets before us and its time to descend If we’re lucky, hit the bottom, in time to begin To see the sun rise again, and a new day seep in

about

One who hopes. That's the meaning behind the title of Americana folk rock band The Mascot Theory's "Esperanto" EP album. When the band descended on Clutch Sound in Madison, WI in May of 2015 they realized they had an abundance of songs for what was to become their new full length album. In an effort to deliver new music faster to their loyal fan base they decided to focus on the tracks that had been in heavy LIVE rotation throughout the year and release those on this special EP. Also included on this EP is an epic LIVE performance of their song "Monterey" performed with members of the Madison Youth Choirs and the Black Star Drum Line at the 2015 Madison Area Music Awards. Early in 2016 The Mascot Theory will return to the studio to work on the remainder of the new songs with plans to release their third full length album later that year.

about

The Mascot Theory Madison, Wisconsin

The Mascot Theory sound has roots in the Americana genre, but the new album leans heavily into classic rock influences; harmonies that bring to mind the Eagles or America, a bit of that Rolling Stones guitar swagger, a little ZZ Top blues rock, a dash of the Pink Floyd mood, but never straying far from the core of the Tom Petty/Beatles/Poco-esque importance of solid melody and lyrics. ... more
